Method of Recruitment – Civil Excise Officer (743/2024)

1. Direct Recruitment (Category No. 743/2024)

The post of Civil Excise Officer (Male/Female) is filled through direct recruitment from eligible candidates based on merit, reservation, and communal rotation rules set by the Kerala government.


2. Written / OMR Test

  •     Objective type OMR-based exam
  •     Carries 100 marks
  •     Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes

    Subjects usually include:

  •         General Knowledge
  •         Current Affairs
  •         General Science
  •         Constitution of India
  •         Simple Arithmetic and Mental Ability
  •         Regional Language (Malayalam/Tamil/Kannada)
  •         English


3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates who qualify in the written test are called for the Physical Efficiency Test.For Male Candidates (any 5 out of 8 events must be cleared):

  •     100 meters run – 14 seconds
  •     High Jump – 132.20 cm
  •     Long Jump – 457.20 cm
  •     Putting the shot (7264 gm) – 609.60 cm
  •     Throwing the cricket ball – 6096 cm
  •     Rope Climbing (using hands only) – 365.80 cm
  •     Pull-ups – 8 times
  •     1500 meters run – 5 minutes 44 seconds


For Female Candidates:

A separate PET standard is applied with slightly modified benchmarks.

4. Document Verification

Candidates who pass the PET must attend certificate/document verification. All original documents related to age, educational qualification, caste, and physical fitness must be produced.


5. Rank List & Appointment

  •     Based on the written test, PET, and document verification, a district-wise rank list is published.
  •     Final selection is made as per the rules of reservation and rotation.
  •     Advice memos for appointment are issued through the PSC portal.
